چکیده

From our experience observing novice animators, it is clear that setting keyframe spatial values is straightforward while specifying the keyframe timing is difficult and often time consuming. This paper presents a modified approach to the keyframing paradigm, performance timing, that lets the user focus on the timing of keyframes separately from the spatial values. In performance timing, the user ‘‘acts-out’’ the timing information using a simple 2D input device such as a mouse or pen-tablet. The user’s input is analyzed and features of the user’s input are mapped to the spatial features of the keyframed motion. The keyframes are then distributed in time according to the timing of the user’s input path. We demonstrate the approach on several scenes and discuss the situations in which it is most and least effective. We present the results of a user study of over 20 subjects in which we compare accuracy using performance timing to accuracy using a standard animation package for specifying keyframe timing. 2006 Elsevier Inc. Multi-Resolution Rendering of Complex Animated Scenes

We present a novel multi-resolution point sample rendering algorithm for keyframe animations. The algorithm accepts triangle meshes of arbitrary topology as input which are animated by specifying different sets of vertices at keyframe positions. A multi-resolution representation consisting of prefiltered point samples and triangles is built to represent the animated mesh at different levels of ...

Puppetry-inspired animation: A midair hand gestures manipulation for 3D character animation

Bringing together keyframe and motion-timing can be very difficult to control especially when manipulating body parts of a character animation. Both seem are ‘detach’ in their event as keyframe is physically visible, while timing is imperceptible and merely appears as substance of a sequence of keyframes. This paper presents an overview of my doctoral research, which focuses on an approach to c...

Deformable object animation using reduced optimal control Citation

Keyframe animation is a common technique to generate animations of deformable characters and other soft bodies. With spline interpolation, however, it can be difficult to achieve secondary motion effects such as plausible dynamics when there are thousands of degrees of freedom to animate. Physical methods can provide more realism with less user effort, but it is challenging to apply them to qui...

How I Animate: An Hand Guesture-Centric Technique

Creating animation is an intriguing activity that one can experience making an inanimate object animate. But the process can be very time consuming and tedious when it involves animating a character using the keyframe technique. The complexity of movement requires detailed observation imagining continuous real‐time movement into fragmented keyframes that are used to construct movement in 3D com...

N-way morphing for 2D animation

We present a novel approach to the creation of varied animations from a small set of simple 2D input shapes. Instead of providing a new 2D shape for each keyframe of an animation sequence, we instead interpolate between a few example shapes in a reduced pose-space. Similar approaches have been presented in the past, but were restricted in the types of input or range of deformations allowed. In ...
